Bariatric surgery is the only and effective treatment for morbid obesity and leads to diabetes
remission. The mechanism of action is reviewed in this chapter. The role of gut hormones as facilitators
of appetite control, weight loss and an improved glycemic control after bariatric surgery is described.
Furthermore nutritional considerations and their management after bariatric surgery are discussed.
