Dr. Mehdi Akhlaghi is an Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry and a member of the Research Center for Nuclear Medicine, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Iran. He started his research works in the field of radiochemistry since 2004 for developing new molecules to be radiolabeled for diagnosis of some disorders including cancers and disease using nuclear imaging techniques (SPECT and PET). He recently focused on the synthesis of some theranostics anticancer agents as well as their targeted delivery and tracking to tumor tissue assisted by nanotechnology. Dr. Akhlaghi has published over 60 articles in the field of organic chemistry and radiochemistry.

Dr. Luo got medical training and Ph.D. program in Southern Medical University, and had been to University of California/Berkeley Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and University of Miami as visiting scholar. Our team investigates the molecular mechanisms mediating invasion and metastasis of tumors including head neck cancer-nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). In the past years, we demonstrated first that neoplastic spindle cells in NPC might have features of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and cancer stem cells (CSCs). We identified the EMT-related genes by gene expression profiles and explored the related molecules and mechanisms of regulating EMT and CSCs in NPC. For the first time, we demonstrated that ALDH1, a functional marker for identifying cancer stem cells in human NPC. We have published in 36 papers including SCI papers and have been cited in Science, Nature Rew Genetics, etc over 1200 times.
