The Biochemistry section of the journal Current Chinese Science publishes original research articles, letters, case reports, reviews/mini-reviews and guest edited thematic issues on various topics related to biochemistry.

Qian Han is currently a Full Professor in Biological Sciences (Biochemistry, Vector Biology) at the Hainan University, Haikou, China. He received a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the China Agricultural University, Beijing, China. His field of expertise/area of interest include Anopheles, Aedes, Enzyme Activity, Proteins, Enzymes, Enzymology, Protein Characterization, Protein Expression, Protein Purification, Enzyme Kinetics, Mosquitoes, Protein Crystallography, Molecular Biology, Anopheles gambiae, Veterinary Medicine, Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Protein Structure, Parasitology, PCR, Cell Culture, Aedes aegypti, Substrate Specificity, Eimeria tenella, Eimeria, Parasitic Diseases, Site-Directed Mutagenesis, Recombinant Protein Expression, Affinity Chromatography, Protein Engineering, Protein Biochemistry, Recombinant Proteins Production & Purification, Size Exclusion Chromatography, Ion Exchange Chromatography, SDS-PAGE, Protein Crystallization, Protein Chromatography, and Enzymatic Catalysis. 韩谦,博士,海南大学生命科学与药学院教授、博士生导师、副 院长,海南大学学术委员会委员。现任学术兼职有《Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences》Associate Editor、《中国媒介生物学及 控制杂志》编委、《寄生虫与医学昆虫学报》编委、《中国兽医科 学》编委、《中国兽医学报》编委等职 从事病媒生物和寄生虫防控相关的研究工作。在基础研究方面, 以芳香族氨基酸代谢为切入点,研究色氨酸代谢与蚊虫传播病原能 力的关系和酪氨酸代谢在蚊虫先天免疫中的作用。在应用研究方面 ,从事大环内酯类抗寄生虫药的制剂及应用研究,制定了我国规模 化猪场寄生虫防控程序,并纳入了国家标准。获得第六届中国农学 会青年科技奖、中国畜牧兽医学会奖、北京市优秀教师称号、中国 畜牧兽医学会兽医寄生虫分会杰出贡献奖等奖励。共发表论文160余 篇,其中包括90余篇SCI收录论文。 主译、参译、参编专著、教材 及国家标准共计12部;获授权国家专利5项。
Dr. Aiqun Jia obtained his Ph.D from Chinese Academy of Sciences, Kunming, China in 2004. He is currently working as a professor in the Department of Pharmacy, Hainan University, China. His research interests include Quorum sensing based novel antibiotic drug candidates R and D Extraction, isolation, identification and bio-active evaluation of natural products, Total synthesis and semi-synthesis of natural products. He has won several awards including the Xibu Scholar Award of CAS and Di’Ao Traditional Chinese Medicine Award of CAS in 2003.
Dr. Donghai Lin obtained his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Xiamen University in 1993. Currently, he is working on Biomolecular NMR spectroscopy and its applications, as a Minjiang scholars Distinguished Professor, in the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Xiamen University, and in the field NMR Center of Xiamen University, China. He has published about 171 academic papers on SCI-cited journals such as Nature Chemical Biology, Nature Communication, Mol. Cell. Dr. Lin got Wang Tianjuan Spectroscopy Prize in 2006. His research interests include Structure Biology and Metabonomics.
Dr. Mendes Soares is an associate professor and researcher at the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil. His research focuses on oxidative stress, diabetes, exercise, and metabolic disorders for more than 20 years. He has published many articles on the subject in high impact periodicals and works in different disciplines of biology and biomedical sciences as a reviewer for several journals.
Prof. Yaroslav Blume is the Director of the Institute of Food Biotechnology and Genomics (from 2008), and Head of Department of Genomics and Molecular Biotechnology. Completed his M.S. (Biochemistry) from Kyiv State University (1978), Ph.D. (1982), and Dr. Sci. (Dr. Hab.) (1988). Full Member of the Natl. Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (2006). His scientific career started from Kyiv University, then he worked in the Institute of Cell Biology and Genetic Engineering (1989-2008). He was a visiting scientist at the University of Freiburg (1997), Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Ottawa (1998), John Innes Center, Norwich (1998-2003), and Antwerpen University (2005-2006). He was an invited professor at Schiller University, Jena (2001). His research activity is aimed at cell biology, genomics of plant cytoskeleton and cell signaling as well as a development of new tools for molecular biotechnology, creation of plants with novel traits, especially for biofuel production. Prof. Blume authored and co-authored more than 290 research publications, 15 patent inventions and 9 plant varieties. State Prize of Ukraine (2011), and Prizes of Natl. Academy of Sci. (2002, 2019).
Dr. Manuel Aureliano is an Associate Professor (with Habilitation) of Biochemistry and he was the Director (1998-2013) of the Biochemistry degree at the University of Algarve, Faro, Portugal. Till now, he also served as a supervisor and/or co-supervisor of several post-doc, PhD, MSc and undergraduate students (over 110), and has published about 90 peer-reviewed journal articles, reviews and book chapters. Dr. Aureliano is a TOP 1% reviewer for Publons and a TOP10 reviewer in Metallomics. He was the editor of the book “Vanadium Biochemistry”, ResearchSignPost, 2007, Kerala, India. His research topics include the role of decavanadate in biology; Biological effects and applications of polyoxometalates.
Dr. Mokhotjwa Simon Dhlamini is a Professor of Physics at the University of South Africa, in South Africa. His main research interests include the development of novel materials for various technological applications and the world’s drive to transition to sustainable energy systems, effective medical treatment and other advanced technologies. His research requires new smart materials with special properties and new novel materials which can be produced to make renewable energy and medical technologies more efficient. Currently he is working on the development of various materials for application in renewable energy, biological imaging and lighting technologies.
Dr. Marwa Matboli serves as an Assistant Professor in the Medical Biochemistry Department and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University. She is also the head of biochemistry department, Faculty of Medicine, at the Modern university for technology and information,Cairo, Egypt from 2019 till present. She has more than 47 international publications in pubmed cited journals and shares as principal investigator and CO-PI for more than 12 funded scientific projects. She has collaborated in molecular research with many institutes e.g. Zweil institute and Medical Ain Shams Research center.
Dr. J.C Tu is a Professor and a Program Chairman at the Department of Clinical Laboratory Medicine, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, China. His research interests include: (1) molecular mechanism and diagnosis of tumor, especially in liver and lung cancer (2) functional role of Homer and its family members in cardiovascular and cancer related diseases. He has published more than 180 articles in reputed journals with more than 6000 citations. He has also participated in writing and publishing more than 30 book chapters, mostly textbooks for graduate/undergraduate students of either clinical laboratory medicine or clinical medicine. He has served as an invited reviewer for a few reputed journals.
Dr.Stéphane P. Roche was born in Thiers (France) in 1979. He received his Ph.D. degree in chemistry from the Blaise Pascal University under the supervision of Professor D. J. Aitken. Afterwards, he joined the group of Professor K. C. Nicolaou at the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences (ICES, @Star) in Singapore to work on the total synthesis of haplophytine (2006-2008). As a second Postdoctoral position, Stéphane worked with Professor John Porco Jr. at Boston University on the synthesis of rocaglates (2008-2011). He started his independent career at Florida Atlantic University and his research interests include the development of novel synthetic methodologies and ‘bio-inspired’ dearomatization strategies for the synthesis of unnatural a-amino acids, peptides and peptidomimetics, and biologically active natural products.
Zhongjie Liang is currently working as an Associate Professor, Center for Systems Biology, Soochow University, China. He obtained Doctor of Science, Drug Design and Discovery Center, Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China. His research interests include Computational Biology (Molecular modeling, Molecular dynamics simulations, Elastic network model, Protein structure network model, Structural systems biology) and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (Structure-based drug design). He has published several scientific papers in well-reputed journals.
Prof. Tamer Ezzat is a full professor at the Department of Chemistry- College of Science- Imam Abdulrhaman Bin Faisal University (IAU) – Saudi Arabia (Dammam). He is presently serving as a Chairman of Renewable and Sustainable Energy Unit - Basic and Applied Scientific Research Center –Saudi Arabia (Dammam). He received his Ph.D. degree (Dr.rer.nat) in materials science from Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, Germany in 2005. He worked at Leibniz Universität Hannover, Germany as a visiting assistant professor in 2007-2011, at the King Abdulaziz University (KAU) through attracting distinguished academics track till became a full professor in 2017.
Dr Wei Cao has been appointed as the Associate Professor at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine since 2017. His training fellowship of Head & Neck Oncology was completed in 2015 from Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital. He joined the Editorial Board of ‘Frontiers in Oncology’ in January 2020 and was appointed as the Guest Associate Editor for managing the research topic "Non-coding RNAs in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Functional and Clinical Implications". Up till now, he has published 38 original articles including, ‘Cancer, EMBO J, Molecular Cancer, Bioinformatics, Molecular Therapy-Nucleic Acids, Cancer Prevention Research, Oral Oncology, Head & Neck.’ He hosted 3 projects from the Natural Science Foundation of China. His research interest includes Head and Neck Oncology, Epigenetic and genetic whole studies, Classifier for early detection, predict lymph node metastasis and survival.
Dr Chukwuma has a Ph.D., M.Sc, and B.Sc. (Hon) in Biochemistry from University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), South Africa. He has 4 years of postdoctoral research experience in medicinal plant and functional food research. He has published more than 32 articles in reputable journals and has more than 220 citations. He is also a recipient of several awards and scholarships and has served as an invited reviewer for many reputable journals and several competitive grants. He is currently a researcher and MSc/PhD project supervisor at the Central University of Technology, South Africa and a registered scientist of the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions.
He completed his Master's Degree in Biotechnology from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. Thereafter he started working in genetic engineering at Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, India. Thereafter, he went on to acquire his Doctor of Philosophy from School of Life Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in drug discovery and cell biology. Currently, he is working as a Scientist at the National Institute of Pathology New Delhi. He has published many articles in peer-reviewed international journals, presented several conference papers on the above field.
Dr. K. Ramanathan, Ph.D., is a Professor at the School of Bio Sciences and Technology, Vellore Institute of Technology, India. Ramanathan received ICMR International Fellowship award for the Young Biomedical Scientist for the year 2018-19 and successfully completed his fellowship training at Purdue University, USA. Ramanathan has broad interests in the area of Machine Learning, Cancer precision medicine and drug resistance analysis. Ramanathan has more than 15 years of research experience in molecular simulation study and drug resistance analysis and has authored/co-authored more than 110 papers in these areas.
Dr. He-Zhong Jiang obtained his Ph. D. degree in 2011 from the State Key Laboratory of Phytochemistry and Plant Resources in West China, Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Currently, he is a member of Chinese Chemical Society, and an Associate Professor at the School of Life Science and Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University (China). Dr. Jiang has experience in the area of Chemistry of Natural Products, Phytochemistry, and Effective Substances of Traditional Chinese Medicine, working mainly in: Medicinal plants, New Research Drugs, Effective Substances of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ethnodrug.
Dr. Lidong Wu received his PhD (2012) in Analytical Chemistry from Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Science, and then worked at Chinese Academy of Fishery Science (2012). He worked at Marine Institute of Ireland, Ireland as a Visiting scholar (2013-2014) and Chemistry Department, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a visiting research scholar (2016- 2018). He was selected in the One-hundred Talent Program of Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (2013). His current research interests mainly focus on analytical and environmental chemistry, and their applications in aquaculture environment and food safety. The recent research interests include: sample preparation and pretreatment; development of analysis and detection technology such as RFID based sensors, FET based biosensors, non-aqueous enzyme based sensors and analytical nanomaterials for rapid screening and detection of environmental pollutants, biomolecules, etc.
