Solar energy is a viable alternative to traditional energy sources it is
healthier for both the environment and humanity, and has the potential to enhance the
social and economic fabric of a community. In this chapter the basic mechanisms of
several solar powered technologies are addressed. These technologies include passive
building design, solar dryers, solar cookers, solar water desalination, solar water
heating, solar electricity, and solar fuels.
