Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is associated with a higher risk of
metabolic complications, even among younger individuals. The metabolic
complications include Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT), Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
(T2DM), obesity, and dyslipidemia. These are the traditional cardiovascular risk factors
that have been proposed to predispose women with PCOS to increased cardiovascular
morbidity, although the evidence remains insufficient at present to suggest direct
causality. This chapter describes the risk of metabolic complications among women
with PCOS.
