This chapter provides an overview of occupational therapy practice in
mental health. Occupational therapists often find themselves working in a
multidisciplinary team. The occupational therapist (OT) enables and promotes
consumers to obtain the skills needed to enhance their ability to participate in or
modify the environment to support their participation in everyday occupations. This
chapter introduces the occupational therapy process and discusses some common
interventions used in mental health, such as supported employment. The chapter
concludes by discussing emerging and future mental health occupational therapy
practice opportunities.
