Introduction

This thematic issue will focus on recent advances in organocatalytic and metal-catalyzed synthetic methodologies for the preparation of functional molecules with high efficiency and selectivity. Particular emphasis will be placed on N-Heterocyclic Carbene (NHC) and isothiourea-catalyzed transformations, including scalable synthetic protocols as well as kinetic and dynamic kinetic resolution strategies for the generation of enantioenriched compounds. The issue will also highlight developments in metal Lewis acid-catalyzed electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions and their applications in complex molecule synthesis. In addition, contributions describing the design and synthesis of fluorescent peptides and related bioactive fluorescent probes will be featured. Overall, this issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of modern catalytic approaches that combine synthetic utility, selectivity, and applicability in functional molecule development.
