Introduction

Central nervous system (CNS) diseases are among the leading causes of chronic disability and mortality worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), neurological disorders affect over 1 billion people, and the cost of their treatment increases annually. However, advances in neuroscience and medicine are enabling fundamentally new approaches to treating CNS diseases. Modern approaches to CNS drug development include personalized medicine based on genetics, targeted molecular targeting using advanced technologies such as genetic engineering, and new therapeutic approaches such as genome editing. More complex mechanisms are being explored, such as in tumors and degenerative diseases, as well as the development of drugs based on specific rather than general mechanisms of action. As science advances, new horizons are opening as genetic convection-enhanced delivery (CED), the use of bioinformatics with machine learning, and regenerative medicine. Personalized medicine, based on identifying the body's genetic and biochemical characteristics, is becoming the key to improving the accuracy and safety of treatment.
