Jian'an Wang

Dr. Wang is the chief of heart center, and the President of the Second Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine. He is currently the chairman of Zhejiang Provincial Cardiology Association, vice-chairman of Chinese Society of Cardiology and the deputy Editor-in-Chief of Chinese Journal of Cardiology. He is full of enthusiasm in medical practice, research and education to promote health management in the population. He advocates evidence-based medicine, and is experienced in interventional cardiology, covering from invasive imaging, coronary catheterization, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and percutaneous mitral valve clip. He is one of the pioneers in China for cell therapy of cardiovascular diseases and won National Science & Technology Progress Award (second class) for his innovative work in cardiac repair post myocardial infarction.

Dr. Hou is Sr. fellow of BSC, & Associate Professor of Clinical Research at Mercer Univ., Visiting Professor at Harbin Med. Univ. and Tongji Univ. He has published more than 200 scientific manuscripts and abstracts, and received the Top Abstract Place Award at CRT and TCT. He has 6 issued US patents. Dr. Hou has more than 60 invited lectures. He also served as an editorial board member for number of peer review journals; abstract reviewer for several Annual Scientific CV Conferences; and a grant reviewer for American Heart Association Vascular Endo Bio Clinical grant.

Antonio Crisafulli is a Cardiovascular Physiologist. He leads the Laboratory of Sport Physiology of the University of Cagliari (Italy). He teaches Human Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cagliari. His fields of research are exercise cardiovascular physiology and physio-pathology, assessment of physical capacity and cardiovascular response during exercise in healthy and in patients suffering from cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. He has published more than 70 papers in this area.

Dr. Lewandowski is a Professor and Director of Cardiovascular Translational Research at the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute and a Senior Principal Investigator at the Translational Research Institute at Florida Hospital in Orlando, FL. He received his PhD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, TX. He is an elected Fellow of the American Heart Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Physiological Society, and the International Society for Heart Research (ISHR). His research examines the metabolic basis of cardiac dysfunction and the genomics of dysregulated metabolic flux in heart disease.

T. Nakata

Dr. Nakata obtained a medical doctor (MD) in 1983 and a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Medicine from the Sapporo Medical University School of Medicine, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. He was a visiting research fellow of Cardiovascular Research, the Rayne Institute, St Thomas’ Hospital, London. He is a specialist of Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Hypertension, Nuclear Medicine and PET imaging, all of which are certificated by each Japanese Society. Currently he is a hospital superintendent of Hakodate Goryoukaku Hospital, Hakodate, Japan, a clinical associate professor (Cardiology) of Sapporo Medical University School of Medicine, and a director of Japanese Society of Nuclear Cardiology. He has published more than 100 scientific publications. He is now the editorial member of Current Cardiology Review and Journal of Nuclear Cardiology.

A. Sekikawa

Dr. Sekikawa obtained an MD (Tohoku University, Japan) in 1983, a PhD in medicine (Yamagata University, Japan) in 1990, and his second PhD in Epidemiology (University of Pittsburgh, US) in 1999 and is currently as Associate Professor of Epidemiology, Graduate School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Sekikawa has 30 years of experience in clinical and epidemiological research. His research interests lie on international cardiovascular epidemiology contrasting Japan to other developed countries, subclinical atherosclerosis including coronary artery calcification, intima-media thickness of the carotid artery and vascular stiff ness, as well as nutrition especially omega-3 fatty acids and isoflavones.

Giuliano Tocci, specialized in Cardiology in 2006 and graduated in the PhD course in Angio-Cardio-Thoraco-Vascular Physiopathology in 2011, is currently Assistant Professor in Cardiology at the University of Rome Sapienza, Italy. He works as Clinical Cardiologist at the Sant’Andrea Hospital in Rome. He is Hypertension Specialist of the European Society of Hypertension. His main clinical interests address pathophysiological alterations and cardiovascular risk profile in patients with hypertension and heart failure. O. Alfieri

Ottavio Alfieri MD is Professor and Chairman of Cardiac Surgery at the S. Raffaele University Hospital in Milan, Italy.

His main interest is surgery for valvular heart diseases (particularly mitral and aortic valve repair, aortic valve sparing operations), surgery for coronary disease, arrhythmias and cardiac failure (left ventricular restoration, left ventricular assist devices ).

More than 20 years ago, he originally developed a method of mitral valve repair ( the edge to edge technique) which is the basis of the currently most used type of percutaneous correction of mitral regurgitation.

His group is very active in the percutaneous treatment of structural heart diseases (TAVI, Mitra Clip, valve-in- valve, valve-in-ring, paravalvular leak closure, ect).

In 2011, he served as president of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS).

He is author or coauthor of more than 550 peer-reviewed papers, related to many areas of cardiac surgery.

He is member of the editorial board of several scientific journals.

He is currently member of the STS, AATS, ESC, EACTS.

Professor Shanahan obtained a PhD in Genetics from the University of Adelaide in Australia and did her postdoctoral training in Sydney Australia (CSIRO) and at the University of Cambridge UK (Departments of Biochemistry and Medicine). Currently she is the Chair of Cellular Signalling in the Cardiovascular Division at King’s College London.

Professor Shanahan’s work focuses on mechanisms of vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) dysfunction in ageing and disease and she has published over 120 scientific papers.

J.P. Veinot

Dr. Veinot is a Cardiovascular Pathologist. He is currently Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Ottawa, Department Head at The Ottawa Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and the Chief Medical and Scientific Officer of the Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association (EORLA).

He is a Full Professor at the University of Ottawa and a past President of the international Society for Cardiovascular Pathology.

Dr. Tong Liu was graduated from Tianjin Medical University, China in 2000, and got his PhD in 2006. He received training in the research of electrophysiology in the Heart Institute, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, from 2009 to 2010. He has particular interests in cardiac electrophysiology, and for the past decade he has focus on the research on atrial fibrillation. He is the Youth Committee Member of Chinese Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (CSPE). He is on the editorial boards of World Journal of Cardiology, Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy and Current Cardiology Reviews, and a peer reviewer for more than 35 scientific journals.
