Abstract

A small library of thirty seven novel coumarinyl-3,4-dihydropyrimidinones and their 3-N-acylates has been synthesized by one-pot multicomponent Biginelli condensation of 4-formylcoumarins, alkyl acylacetates and urea in the presence of concentrated H2SO4 as catalyst followed by acylation at 3-N-position with acid anhydrides in pyridine in 50 to 70 % yields. The structure of all the compounds were unambiguously established on the basis of their spectral (1H, 13C, IR and HRMS) data analysis. The structure of one of the model compound was further confirmed by X-ray crystallography.
